Maybe I have led a sheltered life, but I have never heard the word 'smash' used in the teeth-grindingly Partridgesque way Richard Keys uses it when trying to ingratiate himself with Jamie Redknapp on the clip from Sky Sports.
To me, 'smashing' suggests the film 'Smashing Time' with the lovely late Lynn Redgrave and Rita Tushingham, a superlative favoured by the Famous Five and other Enid Blyton neo-racist cadres, or a cricket ball going through a greenhouse window.
However, I have found another instance of what shall henceforth be known as the Keys usage in the Dregs podcast, produced by my friend Max Dickins of Absolute Radio.
