Thank you to all former colleagues of Richard Keys for trying to help
me with my Screen Break column next Monday by supplying me with
charming stories about his demeanour in the workplace.
I think it demonstrates the esteem in which the former Sky host and
TV-AM anchor was held that so many of his workmates, past and present,
are keen to ensure he does not disappear from the public domain.
My favourite tribute to the much-loved anchor (he was described to me
in one telephone call as "the complete anchor" - although it was rather
a bad line and I might have misheard)was the following from a former
news person at TV-AM:
"Should you be thinking of writing about Richard Keys
any time soon, for background you might like to know that at TV-am he was noted
for his very hairy forearms and his tiny, anus-like mouth. Once noticed, quite
hard to take your eyes off it.
"
The news is that I shall not be writing about Keysgate for Monday's
paper, the story having already had quite enough coverage in The
Guardian even before this morning's 12 pages....
