Ever since I got the gig at the Racing Post (column every Tuesday, vaguely about sport on TV), I have been going through what's left of the old Screen Break archives to find stuff about betting that I could possibly recyc...er, sorry, that could give me inspiration for a piece that might interest my new audience.

Is there anything more exciting than to get the views of the British public on matters of moment? 

For true enlightenment, I recommend the phone-ins on any BBC local radio station, or if you want to hear similar banalities but expressed more confidently in the assured tones of the middle classes, the Any Answers phone-in on Radio Four.

The great joy of the modern age, however, is that there are scores of outlets for the man (or woman, could be a woman) on the Clapham Omnibus to express his (or her, could be a her) views on pretty well anything - and I write as someone who has reviewed ball-point pens on Amazon.

Anyway, this amused me for some reason.  It's a fantastically Pooteresque (Diary of a Nobody - if you haven't read it, you must, soon) review from Trip Advisor of Whelan's Fish and Chip restaurant in St. Annes...
