.....is what Michael Parkinson said to Robert Mitchum, to which Mitchum replied: "Hell, I can't act either but that never stopped me." Clearly, staggering modesty...but on the singing, Parky may have had a point. Here's a track from the album in question, Calypso Is Like So....
....and while we are in the wonderful world of the mid '60s, is it not time to bring back the singing commercial...?

Hurrah, Debenham's opens its Christmas shop in two weeks' time...and after a disappointing finish to the World Cup, Wimbledon, and The Open golf, what else is there to look forward to but Christmas.
Well, that and the film of the Eamonn Holmes court action against the BBC for revealing he was a little bit chubby.... Holmes-Culshaw starring Michael Sheen. I can't wait..

(.....This is a piece I did for Radio Four about three years ago. Mildly prescient, I think...)
Yet another country withdrew from the 2012 Olympics today, citing Britain's "appalling record on human rights," believed to be a reference to the recent strengthening of the anti-terrorism laws, under which detainees can now be held without charge for up to 12 years if suspected of:
(a) Growing a beard,
(b) Hiring an unusually large number of Bollywood movies, or
(c) Ordering anything other than chicken tikka massala in an Indian restaurant...
